This Wall Street of the West was once one of the premier Ports of Entry and Trade on the Gulf of Mexico. The city of Galveston grips tenaciously to the northernmost barrier island just off the Texas coast. Once the site of the largest natural disaster in U.S. history, in which 6,000 to 8,000 people lost their lives, the city remains as a reminder of a bygone era.
