Off the Interstate

Life lies beyond the interstate, and whenever possible I make great efforts to avoid it like the plague it is. With my trusty map, a good CD in the player and a warm cup of coffee I explore the back roads of Texas.
Just beyond the mess of I-35 and a little north of where I grew up lies the old north-south thoroughfare whose existence can be traced back to the Spanish Colonial period. The old Camino Real is dotted with towns that no longer show up on maps, their names long since forgotten, as they are slowly reclaimed by the land.
